An Immersive Journey In The Night

An Immersive Journey In The Night

Context

"In The Night", a temporary exhibition, delves into the enigmatic world of darkness through the lens of approximately thirty artists. This exhibition represents an aesthetic journey through the night's varied sensations and states, combining artistic creativity with heightened subjectivity. It offers a tactile exploration of nocturnal impressions, from dreamscapes to the tangible touch of traditional and reimagined art techniques.

Challenge

SAMoCA commissioned Big Orange to develop an immersive audio experience for the exhibition. Big Orange enlisted Tapart's expertise to create an Audio Guide that could seamlessly integrate with the narratives for key objects in the exhibition.

Creation

An Immersive Journey in the Night

In collaboration with Big Orange and SAMoCA, we developed a Progressive Web Application (PWA) for this unique audio tour — a true masterpiece in both audio design and app development. Using our product, Mediaguide by Tapart, we immersed visitors in an ambient soundtrack that complements the narratives of key objects. This is accessible on the visitor's smartphone by simply scanning a QR code to begin the experience.

Immersive ambient audio

Ambient audio tracks for each of the four zones in the exhibition continuously play in the background during the tour. The audio seamlessly loops and crossfades between the four zones, immersing visitors in a beautiful sound experience.

Narratives

At key artworks and objects in the exhibition, visitors can listen to narratives. These narratives include sound designs that blend seamlessly with the ambient soundtrack in the background for a truly immersive experience.

Low Sensory version

For visitors who prefer a quieter experience, a low stimulus version of the tour is offered. This version omits ambient audio and sound design, allowing the visitor to listen to the narrative by voice-over.

Right-To-Left language

Arabic is a right-to-left language, which influences not only the presentation of textual content but also other interface elements and app navigation. Our Mediaguide solution features full RTL support.

Build with our Mediaguide

The Audio Guide for SAMoCA was created using our Mediaguide product. This framework allows us to build and launch audio guides and media guides efficiently, without reinventing the wheel for each project.

Web application for mobile

Visitors can embark on the immersive audio journey using their own mobile phones. The experience is available as a web application, accessible by scanning a QR code, eliminating the need for app downloads and installations.

SupraGuide DIVA devices

In addition to the web-application, the experience also available on handheld devices in the museum. Together with Tonwelt and Big Orange we prepared a total of 60 devices for the museum. Running our Mediaguide software to bring the experience to the visitors not able to use their own smartphones.

Result

The high quality of this production, resulting from the collaboration of different specialists, underscores the power of an Audio Guide in creating exceptional visitor experiences.

“Working with Tapart was a bliss, and by using their state-of-the-art app, we've delivered one of our finest audio experiences to date.”
